Handling bulk incoming documents through automation
In order to enroll our patients in a program that would allow qualified participants to receive their medications were free, several documents were required, and all responses were received back via fax from the manufacturer of the medication resulting in 50+faxes per day
The Solution
For the applications, I put together an automated workflow that would pre-fill all of the requisite form fields based on the patient's profile and then request signatures + income history as appropriate
For the faxes, I programmed an RPA to OCR each document that was scanned into our secure fax inbox from this sender and then parse it to seek out key terms to categorize each document, and extract pertinent information as appropriate
The Impact
A process which previously took hours of human reading and classifying each day now only takes moments of oversight to ensure that the scanning & OCR is going smoothly
